Coaching Requirements

Welcome to the 2022-2023 hockey season! On behalf of the Chisago Lakes Hockey Association, we would like to thank you for your willingness to coach a team this season. Please know we appreciate all the time and energy you will put into your team. If you have any questions or need assistance during the season, please let your director know.

Coaching Steps

Please review the following info before beginning this process.

All coaching requirements need to be sent to the CLHA Registrar upon completion.


NOTE: Many of the individual steps provide documents or information needed to complete the final coaching registration. It is recommended to complete the steps listed below in order.


Coaches interested in coaching a girls U10, U12, or U15 team, please contact the Director of Girls hockey.

Coaching Registration Process

USA Hockey Registration

Make sure to PRINT and SAVE your USA Hockey number. You'll need it for additional steps in the coaching registration process.


You will need a USA Hockey number each year. The cost can be reimbursed.


MN Hockey Background Screening

Background screenings are good for 2 years.

If you completed a background check in 2021-2022, it's good for the 2022-2023 season.

Background screening fees can be reimbursed.


Safesport Training

SafeSport Core Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/19. 

Please note: You must complete SafeSport EVERY YEAR.

The first time you take SafeSport, register for "SafeSport Core Training Course."

Once you have completed the SafeSport Core Training Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who need to recertify. Users completing the SafeSport Refresher Course will be certified for an additional season.


Age-Specific Modules

Age-specific modules must be completed to support the level of team you'd like to coach. There is a fee for each module.


Coaching Education Program (CEP)

All coaches need to participate in the Coaching Education Program (CEP). Make sure to keep your CEP# and know its expiration date. 

There is a fee for each class. The fee varies based upon the level.

Concussion Requirements

All coaches must complete a concussion certification course and complete the MN Hockey Concussion form

Most often, the Age-Specific Module will count towards your concussion certificate. If your module is outdated, you may need to complete the concussion certificate requirement through other options:

There are multiple options to complete the concussion certificate:

If you have completed a concussion certificate through another sport (football, lacrosse, etc) you can submit that certificate to meet your hockey concussion requirement. Concussion certificates are good for 2 years.

The Age-specific Module or concussion certificate will be uploaded in the Coaching Registration link. Additionally, the MN Hockey form will be completed in the Coaching Registration Link

CLHA COACHING REGISTRATION

Anyone interested in coaching or helping at practices must also complete this registration. You will need documents and information from the previous steps.

Coaching Reimbursement

CLHA will reimburse coaches for expenses from completing their coaching requirements.  Coaches should complete the CLHA Reimbursement form with receipts and turn into the CLHA Treasurer.

CEP Level 4 reimbursement must be approved by the board prior to registering for the class in order to be eligible for reimbursement.
