Coaching Registration Process

Anyone interested in coaching or helping at practices must complete this registration.

You will need documents and information from the below steps to complete this registration.

USA Hockey Registration

You will need a new USA Hockey number each year. The cost can be reimbursed (see below for details).

PRINT and SAVE your USA Hockey number. You'll need it for additional steps in the coaching registration process.

MN Hockey Background Screening

Background screenings are valid for 2 years.

If you completed a background check in 2022-2023, it is valid for the 2023-2024 season.

Background screening fees can be reimbursed.

Safesport Training

SafeSport Core Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) calendar year.

Please note: You must complete SafeSport EVERY YEAR.

The first time you take SafeSport, register for SafeSport Core Training Course.

Once you have completed the SafeSport Core Training Course, there will be a Refresher Course for individuals who need to recertify. Users completing the SafeSport Refresher Course will be certified for an additional season.

Age-Specific Modules

Age-specific modules must be completed to support the level of team you'd like to coach. There is a fee for each module.

Coaching Education Program (CEP)

All coaches need to participate in the Coaching Education Program (CEP). Make sure to keep your CEP# and know its expiration date.

There is a fee for each class. The fee varies based upon the level.

Concussion Requirements

All coaches must complete a concussion certification course and the MN Hockey Concussion form

Most often, the Age-Specific Module will count towards your concussion certificate. If your module is outdated, you may need to complete the concussion certificate requirement via other options:

There are multiple options to complete the concussion certificate:

If you have completed a concussion certificate through another sport (football, lacrosse, etc) you can submit that certificate to meet your hockey concussion requirement. Concussion certificates are good for 2 years.

The Age-specific Module or concussion certificate will be uploaded in the Coaching Registration link. Additionally, the MN Hockey form will be completed in the Coaching Registration Link

Coaching Reimbursement

CLHA will reimburse coaches for expenses from completing their coaching requirements.  Coaches should complete the CLHA Reimbursement form with receipts and submit to the CLHA Treasurer.

CEP Level 4 reimbursement must be approved by the board prior to registering for the class in order to be eligible for reimbursement.
